Visit of the EPFL Animal facilities - zebrafish

Apr 30, 2023 — 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Bâtiment SV - Hall niveau 1

Description

During your visit, you will have the opportunity to observe the housing of laboratory zebrafish and discuss with specialists working with these animals at EPFL. Fish models are becoming increasingly important in both basic and applied research, particularly with zebrafish - a small tropical freshwater fish named for the dark stripes on its body. Zebrafish are now considered a highly valuable vertebrate animal model due to their small size (3 to 5 cm), optical transparency of the embryo, large number of offspring (up to 200 eggs per female), and the extra-uterine development of embryos. Although humans may seem vastly different from zebrafish, we share around 70% of our genes. One-hour visits, in groups of 10 people maximum. Visits at 10am, 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Reservations and tour departure in the lobby of the SV building.
