How do we perceive the world around us?

Apr 29, 2023 — 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Salle SV 3510

Description

The Laboratory of Psychophysics at EPFL studies the processing of visual information in humans using various techniques: psychophysical methods, imaging (EEG, MRI) and mathematical modelling. Vision is the sensory modality that makes the most use of our brain. It is fascinating but can be very counter-intuitive; the brain interprets the information received from our eyes in sometimes surprising ways. For example, optical illusions trick our visual system, even when we are aware of the illusion. We will introduce you to some optical illusions in a playful way and explain how they trick our brain. If you wish, you can also take part in a scientific experiment where we will measure your brain's response to visual stimuli presented on a screen.
