Visit of the EPFL animal facilities - mice

Apr 29, 2023 — 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Bâtiment SV - Hall niveau 1

Description

During this visit, you will be able to observe how mice and rats are housed, watch their cages being changed, and talk to EPFL's animal research specialists. In our rodent facilities, we house laboratory rats and mice. The use of animals in research at EPFL is not systematic, and takes place only when there is no alternative. Mice share a very high genetic similarity with humans (over 90%), and show all assets for breeding in a laboratory setting: numerous offspring, rapid development, and small size. These features make them the most common animal model used in research. Rats are very capable when it comes to learning tasks, so behavioral research often relies on them. One-hour visits, in groups of 6 people maximum. Visits at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 16:00. Reservations in the Hall SV.
